More technique Info:
When the coaches harp on you kids about technique it is because we have set a standard for this team and we have every intention of continuing to strive for this standard. We talk A LOT about body position because proper body position is the fundamental basis for technique and crucial to skiing fast. Here are two pictures for you to study, both were taken by CBGNT member Hannah Smith.
March Skiing Opportunities
I’m sorry that I have yet to get a race report up for Steamboat. I have been getting my butt kicked getting ready to leave for Junior Nationals. A quick update, we will be leaving Friday the 5th. I’ll get some updates up on the site to let you know how things are going. Kelsey, Jessica, Garrett, and I will be staying an extra week in Maine to attend a biathlon development camp and then race in their National Championships.
We will have a few skiing opportunities in March when we return from JNs for those interested. These won’t be formal practices, but more of an opportunity to come up and ski. We’re trying hard to extend the season this year. So please come out and join us, this time of year can be truly beneficial and is often overlooked. We’ll keep going in April depending on how the snow holds up.
March
4 Thu - 3:15-6:15 Classic - Stadium
16 Tue - 3:15-6:15
18 Thu - 3:15-6:15
20 Sat - Adam will be doing his best to win the Steamboat Pentathalon. Allison will be skiing at Eldora for those who would like to skate for a cpl hours. Van leaves Boulder High at 7:45. Meet Nordic Center 8:30, skiing until 10:30 or so.
23 Tue - 3:15-6:15
25 Thu - 3:15-6:15
27 Sat - I think we are going to go up and do the Big Shooter Bonk in Kremmling. This is a race that has 60K, 40K, and 20K options. I envision us treating it more like a tour than a race and just doing it for fun. I hear it’s pretty hard and I know it is high altitude. We would likely try to head up on Friday and try to bum some housing or find a cheap place to stay. If you are interested let Adam or I know. It’s awfully far for anyone younger than J3. If you want more details you can checkout their website, although it currently displays info from last year.
2010 Olympian Caitlin Compton:
This is on the big climb at Soldier Hollow, you can see how she really leans into the hill and attacks it.
Ankle to shin angle
Vertical thighs
Nicely rolled back
Arm swing
Naturally angled head
Former BNJRT member Miles Havlick:
(Currently skiing for the University of Utah)
Miles out of the start at Soldier Hollow. Hannah did a great job here capturing an extremely dynamic movement. It is important to understand that Miles heels are coming off the ground because he is so aggressively moving his hips and hands forward, not because he is using his calves to lift his heels off the ground. It wasn’t long ago, that just like the young skiers on our team Miles was practicing his double pole in the Stadium at Eldora. This is achievable, it just takes some hard work and concentration.
